Abstract

The current paper has examined some strategies used to teach English conversation in some Kinshasa high schools, mainly in the municipality of “Mont-Ngafula” in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It has investigated ten English teachers in teaching conversation materials through strategies. Data were collected through survey questionnaire, interview, class observation as research tools. At the end of all research some teachers are not aware of these strategies: Follow up questions, turn talking, back-channel clues, requesting and giving clarification, changing the subjects. And other teachers use these strategies and others.
