Patil, Mudra (2025) Application of Poka-Yoke Mechanisms for In-Space Manufacturing and Assembly. International Journal of Innovative Science and Research Technology, 10 (7): 25jul1969. pp. 3259-3262. ISSN 2456-2165
In-Space Manufacturing and Assembly (ISAM) is a growing field that requires highly reliable systems which are capable of operating in space. This paper explores the application of Poka-Yoke (mistake-proofing) techniques in the design of deployment mechanisms for ISAM. This study shows how Poka-Yoke can significantly enhance reliability of deployment systems in space through systematic integration of asymmetric features, interlocking geometries, passive alignment, and mechanical sequencing. The proposed design framework is built within the scope of Design for In-Space Manufacturability (DFISM) principles.
